A-Ret is a tretinoin-based topical gel commonly used to treat acne and signs of photoaging. It works by increasing skin cell turnover, helping to clear pores and renew the skin surface. While effective, it may cause temporary irritation and requires sun protection. Proper application and care are essential for optimal results.
Common Use
A-Ret is a topical gel — that means a gel you put on your skin — used mainly to treat acne (what we call spity in Cyprus). It works by helping your skin shed old cells and make new ones faster, stopping new pimples from forming. It is also used for mild to severe acne, blackheads and whiteheads (comedonal acne), fine lines from sun damage, dark patches (hyperpigmentation), and rough skin that feels like sandpaper — all things our Cypriot sun can do if we’re not careful.
Dosage and Direction
Put a thin layer of A-Ret on the area you’re treating once a day, ideally in the evening, after you’ve washed your face and dried it well. Don’t slather it on — more doesn’t mean better and can just make your skin angry.
Precautions
While using A-Ret, stay out of the sun, avoid sunbeds, and skip harsh face products. Tretinoin (the active ingredient) makes your skin more sensitive, so you burn easier than a tourist in August. Always wear suncream during the day, and have a chat with your doctor before mixing it with any other creams or treatments.
Contraindications
Don’t use A-Ret if you’re allergic to tretinoin or other retinoids (a family of vitamin A-based ingredients). It’s not recommended if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor explicitly tells you to.
Possible Side Effect
The most common side effects are redness, peeling, dryness, a burning feeling, or your skin becoming more sensitive. In rare cases, you might get serious irritation or an allergic reaction — if that happens, call your doctor.
Drug Interaction
Avoid using A-Ret with products that have alcohol, menthol, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide, as these can overdo it and leave your skin irritated. If you’re using any other prescription or over-the-counter skin treatments, check with your doctor first.
Missed Dose
If you forget to apply it, put it on as soon as you remember. But if it’s nearly time for your next application, skip the missed one — never double up.
Overdose
It’s very unlikely to overdose from putting this on your skin, but if you use too much you might get serious redness, peeling, or irritation. If someone accidentally swallows it, get medical help right away.
Storage
Keep at room temperature (15–25°C), away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed and somewhere kids can’t reach.
