Apcalis SX Oral Jelly helps to achieve good erection during sexual intercourse. It works improving blood flow in the penis relaxing arterial smooth muscles. It works only when sexual stimulation is present.
Common Use
Apcalis SX Oral Jelly is a variation of the well-known medication Cialis. Its active ingredient is tadalafil, which belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors—in simple terms, it helps men achieve and maintain an erection when they are sexually aroused.
Here’s how it works in plain language: When a man is sexually stimulated, the body releases a chemical called nitric oxide in the penis. This sets off a chain reaction that increases levels of a substance called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) , which relaxes the smooth muscles in the arteries of the penis, allowing more blood to flow in and causing an erection. Normally, an enzyme called PDE5 breaks down cGMP, which brings the erection to an end. Apcalis works by blocking this enzyme, allowing cGMP levels to stay high for longer, which helps maintain the erection.
Important to know: Apcalis has no effect without sexual stimulation. It does not cause an erection on its own—it simply helps your body respond naturally when you are aroused.
Apcalis is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) —sometimes called impotence—which is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for satisfactory sexual activity. It is also sometimes prescribed for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) , an enlarged prostate that can cause urinary symptoms, though this is more common with daily-use tadalafil.
Key features of Apcalis:
The effect can last for up to 36 hours—which is why it’s sometimes called the “weekend pill”
The jelly form is easy to take and may work faster than tablets for some people
When sexual arousal is present, the effect can appear in as little as 16 minutes after taking the medication
Dosage and Direction
The recommended dose of Apcalis is 20 mg. It should be taken at least 16 minutes before sexual activity. The effect can last for up to 36 hours, so there is no need to rush—you can take it and feel confident that it will work when the moment is right.
Take Apcalis once daily as needed, and do not exceed the recommended dose. Taking more than one dose in a 24-hour period does not improve the effect and increases the risk of side effects.
Precautions
Avoid or limit the following while taking Apcalis:
Grapefruit juice – can increase the level of tadalafil in your blood, raising the risk of side effects
Alcoholic beverages – alcohol can increase the risk of dizziness, headache, and low blood pressure
Tobacco – smoking while taking Apcalis may increase the risk of a rare condition called NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy), which is sudden vision loss caused by reduced blood flow to the optic nerve
Before taking Apcalis, inform your doctor if you have:
An abnormal penis, including a curved penis (Peyronie’s disease) or birth defects of the penis
Coronary artery disease, arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), angina, or a history of heart attack or heart failure
Low blood pressure (hypotension) or high blood pressure (hypertension)
Bleeding disorders
Stomach ulcers
Diabetes
Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol or triglycerides)
Sickle-cell anemia
Liver failure or kidney failure
A history of stroke
Contraindications
Apcalis is contraindicated—meaning you should not take it—in patients who are using any form of organic nitrate, either regularly or occasionally. Nitrates are often prescribed for chest pain (angina). Combining Apcalis with nitrates can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure, which can lead to fainting, heart attack, or stroke.
Examples of nitrates include:
Nitroglycerin
Isosorbide dinitrate
Isosorbide mononitrate
Amyl nitrite (“poppers”)
If you are taking any nitrate medication, do not use Apcalis.
Possible Side Effects
Most common side effects may include:
Facial flushing (reddening and warmth of the face)
Headache
Stomach upset or indigestion
Diarrhea
Flu-like symptoms
Nausea
Less common side effects may include:
Low blood pressure
Blurred vision or changes in color vision (seeing a blue or green tint)
Abnormal ejaculation
Prolonged erections (priapism) are also possible. If you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, seek immediate medical help. If not treated promptly, this can cause permanent damage to the penis.
Aggravation of heart problems has been reported in patients with pre-existing heart disease using this medication. If you experience chest pain during or after sexual activity, stop and seek medical help immediately.
Drug Interactions
Apcalis can interact with several medications:
Do NOT take with:
Organic nitrates (as mentioned above) – this combination can cause severe, life-threatening hypotension
Use with caution and inform your doctor if you are taking:
Erythromycin, ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), indinavir (Crixivan), ritonavir (Norvir) – these can increase levels of tadalafil in your blood
Alpha-blockers (such as doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin) – used for high blood pressure or prostate problems; combining them may cause low blood pressure
Other medications such as atazanavir, clarithromycin, nefazodone, nelfinavir, saquinavir, telithromycin
Your Apcalis dose may require adjustment if you are taking any of these medications. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter products and herbal supplements.
Missed Dose
Apcalis is taken as needed for erectile dysfunction, so there is no regular schedule to miss. If you forget to take it before sexual activity, you can take it as long as it’s at least 16 minutes before you expect to be active. Do not take more than one dose in a 24-hour period.
Overdose
An overdose of Apcalis may cause the side effects listed above to become more severe. If you believe you have taken too much, seek immediate medical help.
Storage
Store Apcalis at room temperature, away from moisture, direct sunlight, heat, and out of reach of children and pets. Keep it in a tightly closed container.
